Headboard Project - The Supplies

So I've got all the supplies to make our headboard! Here are a few of them:

I also bought a big sheet of pressed wood, buttons to cover, and wood & screws to attach to bed frame.

This is the headboard material up close. It's vinyl (I'm going for the faux leather look).

I am planning on it looking something along these lines:

Should I go with the square button pattern or diamonds? I'm leaning towards the diamond pattern...
